“Stuttering is a disability and is referred to as a speech impediment. The view we have… is it’s not a speech impediment. It’s an accent,” says Farah Al Qaissieh.
Farah founded the support group Stutter UAE to destigmatize stuttering and create a space where people who stutter can meet and know that they’re not alone. The group now has over 1,000 members who come together in awareness and confidence building workshops.
The slogan of the initiative is “Stuttering with a Smile,” so we want to let them know that you might never reach a perfect speech in terms of fluency, but that’s okay.
